At St.Finbar’s the L.O.T.E is Italian or Italiano

At St Finbar’s School we believe that the ability to use a language other than English and interact with other cultures is important for our students. We promote and support students to fully participate in the modern world, especially in the context of increasing globalisation and Australia's cultural diversity.

Learning a language provides our students with the opportunity for first hand experience of another linguistic system and culture, thus promoting a deeper understanding and awareness of one’s own language and culture and that of others.

The Italian Program aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure  that students:

  • Communicate in the language they are learning
  • Understand the relationship between language, culture and learning
  • develop intercultural capabilities
  • understand themselves as communicators

L.O.T.E at St.Finbar’s aims to provide students with a fun and engaging program which is implemented as follows:

  • Students from Prep to 6 have a one hour lesson per week
  • Lessons take place in the classroom
  • The L.O.T.E teacher is responsible for coordinating the school’s program, including Italian days and L.O.T.E incursions or excursions.
  • Student progress in L.O.T.E is reported in mid and end of year reports
