Number Intervention Program F - 4

The CEOM Number Intervention F - 4 Program is a new initiative for St Finbar’s Primary this year (2016). This program targets the number skills of children in years One to Four. Research shows that students who join the program make substantial gains in Number confidence – particularly in the area of mental arithmetic and problem-solving.

In semester one, a small group
of students in Years 3 & 4, identified through assessment, are accepted into the program for approximately 40 lessons. The students will be involved in lessons either on their own or in a group of three, for a half-hour per day approximately 3-4 times per week.

In semester two, students in Years 1 & 2, who are identified through assessment are accepted into the program for the second half of the year. They too, will be involved in lessons either on their own or in a group of three, for a half hour per day approximately 3-4 times per week.

The lessons focus on number words and numerals, structuring numbers, and conceptual place value. Addition, subtraction, and multiplication may be addressed as well, depending upon the individual needs of the students.
