Wellbeing
The St Finbar's Difference
At St Finbar’s Primary School, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by the MACS 2030 - Forming Lives to Enrich the World vision, we believe that "Every student is inspired and enabled to flourish and enrich the world." We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, connected and supported to reach their full potential.

Our whole-school approach to wellbeing supports the academic, social, emotional and spiritual growth of every student through:
-
Explicit teaching of Social and Emotional Learning (Prep–Year 6)
-
Student Wellbeing Team
-
School Psychologist
-
Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders
-
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
-
Strong partnerships between students, families and staff
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
At St Finbar’s Primary School, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a valued and non-negotiable part of our curriculum. Every class from Prep to Year 6 participates in an explicit SEL lesson each Monday, using the Victorian Government's Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials.
These learning materials equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to build positive relationships, manage their emotions and contribute to safe, inclusive communities.
The main focus in these sessions are developing:
-
Emotional Literacy
-
Personal and Cultural Strengths
-
Positive Coping
-
Problem Solving
-
Stress Management
-
Help-seeking
-
Positive relationships
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)
At St Finbar’s, our Positive Behaviour Learning approach provides a consistent, positive framework for supporting students to develop the skills and behaviours needed to thrive. Our three school values are Be Respectful, Be Resilient and Be Safe and these underpin our teachings.
Students are explicitly taught what these values look and sound like across different areas of school life, supported by our Behaviour Matrix, which clearly outlines our expectations. Children are recognised and rewarded with tokens when they demonstrate our school values, celebrating positive choices and encouraging students to take responsibility for their behaviour. Through this approach, we foster a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment where every child can flourish.
