Our Years 5 and 6 program provides students with increasing opportunities to develop independence, confidence and leadership skills as they prepare for the transition to secondary school. In Year 5, students participate in a dedicated public speaking program and Leadership Day, helping them develop the communication, collaboration and organisational skills they will draw on as Year 6 leaders.
In Year 6, every student takes on a leadership position and has the opportunity to contribute to our school community. Year 6 students lead our weekly assemblies, developing confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of service.
Students receive explicit instruction in core areas of Literacy and Mathematics, while having greater autonomy over their learning in other curriculum areas. Camps, including our Year 6 Canberra camp, provide opportunities to build independence and resilience, while increased sporting opportunities, including interschool sport, extend students beyond the classroom.
Together, these experiences help our senior students develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for a successful transition to high school.
